For most of us—myself included—surrendering in faith can feel like a tug-of-war with the Universe. We say we trust. We pray. We affirm. We place our hopes on the altar of possibility. And then—almost without noticing—we snatch them back with worry, analysis, and late-night rehearsals of every dreaded scenario.
Felena Bunn, one of our gifted Sunday soloists, underwent surgery last week. When I called to check in and pray with her, she gently but firmly told me the prayer had already been answered—twenty years ago, when the condition was first diagnosed. In this moment, she said, all that remained was praise. “Why would I take it back,” she asked, “when God’s already got it?”
Felena released the struggle long ago. She trusted that her healing and wholeness were already complete. Her inner work was finished. What remained was gratitude.
This is what I mean by letting life respond.
Not forcing an outcome.
Not reworking the prayer.
But trusting the need has already been met—and allowing life to reveal it.
