The Illinois Holocaust Museum reopens this month following a year-long renovation, featuring expanded visitor spaces, an enhanced core Holocaust exhibition, and new opportunities for education, reflection, and public programming.

Join Mark Friedman for “A Humanist Approach to the Holocaust Museum,” a unique, docent-guided experience that invites us to explore the Holocaust through a human-focused lens.

Mark is a certified museum Education Docent who regularly leads tours for students and adults. Rather than a traditional lecture, this tour is designed as a participatory discussion that encourages critical thinking, historical understanding, and personal reflection.

Together, we will:

  • Explore the causes, events, and meaning of the Holocaust through a search for historical truth.
  • Hear stories of survivors and witnesses and consider the individual choices and circumstances that shape human lives.
  • Examine historical evidence and seek to understand the humanity of those involved, including perpetrators.
  • Challenge misconceptions and look beyond labels such as survivor, bystander, collaborator, and perpetrator.
