Usually doom scrolling is just that... an endless loop of doom and gloom. But every once in a while we get lucky and stumble upon a gem amidst all the rubbage. This morning my screen filled with one such moment of magic.
It started with the clip of an older woman, smiling, free, and unbothered, running naked down a sunlit beach. In the foreground, musician Brett Dennen shares who this woman is, and how this moment came to be.
Eight years ago Dennen's team was casting for a music video. In walked 80-year-old Vera Taylor. The team asked her: "What's on your bucket list?" So Vera started listing: skydiving, riding in a limo, learning to surf. She was hired and filming started. And now you can watch her do all those things and more in the music video. She discharges a fire extinguisher just for fun. She jumps into a pool in a wedding dress. And, yes, she runs naked down a beach.
Vera, a holocaust survivor and single mother, passed away recently at 88 years old after suffering a stroke in an exercise class. She exuded energy, vitality, and enthusiasm until her last breath.
Vera's legacy invites us to keep our own dreams ready! Write them down, speak them out loud, make that bucket list or vision board. You never know when the Universe might tap you on the shoulder and ask what you're waiting to do. And when it does, you'll want to be ready with an answer.
