Yesterday, I asked a simple question on social media: What do you call God?
The responses were numerous and astonishingly diverse. Remarkably, "God" was rarely the answer. Each reply served as a reminder that we all hold a unique and deeply personal relationship with our higher power.
It makes me think of grandparents, and how they will respond to almost any name once their grandchild declares it so. Meemaw, gramps, pawpaw, nana, grammy, angel, bobo ... the names are endless. And often, what starts out as a silly nickname given by a toddler who can't pronounce "grandma" ends up following the entire family through multiple generations. No matter the name, when a beloved grandchild of any age utters that term it's like a beacon to the grandparent, and they come running.
I suspect God is no different.
And just in case you're curious, here's my running list of the many names for God.
