Yesterday my 4-year-old great nephew from Orlando, Carson, got to showcase his bowling skills for his Michigan relatives. From release to result, his performance was spell-binding. His throw looks a little like a softball pitch: The ball arcs higher than he is tall, ending in a solid thud a few feet down the lane. During a slow roll toward the pins, Carson collapses just shy of the foul line, then spins on his belly like a crazed breakdancer.

Meantime, with professional form, a guy with his name emblazoned on his shirt-back, repeatedly set the ball down on a neighboring lane. With a silent curving spin, he smashed the pocket in a string of explosive strikes.

My own release is between the two, though admittedly much closer to Carson's style than Mr. Perfect's.

Just as in bowling, there's a spectrum for skillfully releasing burdens weighing heavily in consciousness. Some we release with grace and ease, others are more effortful. Ultimately, how we release is less important than whether we're willing to let go.

As 2023 draws to a close, may the infinite power within, free you from anything standing between you and your highest and best life.

As you prepare for 2024, I highly recommend participating in some form of contemplative clearing. Here are three options:

  1. Sunday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m. guided meditative Burning Bowl Ceremony during our worship service
  2. Sunday Dec. 31, 7-p.m. to midnight self-directed ritual during our Conscious New Year's Celebration  (https://www.unityns.org/events/conscious-community-new-years-eve-celebration/2023-12-31)
  3. Wednesday, Jan. 3 from 11 a.m. to noon, Silent Unity's Virtual Burning Bowl Service (https://www.unity.org/event/unity-burning-bowl-ceremony-2024)
