Devotional Voting

The collective desire to move forward is evident even in our weather. Record hi temps have buds  bursting open overnight, adorning branches with spring's spectrum of lush green. Perhaps it's the cosmos' promise that the intensity of the current primary elections is a fruitful step in the evolving consciousness of the nation.
It would be folly to expect that our collective desire for evolution is sufficient to accomplish it. Or that anything unlike those desires is magically activated in the casting of our votes. Like our understanding of God, evolution is an ongoing process. Of course, the challenge of the spiritual journey is moving forward constructively.
Positive change requires an ever-deepening awareness of the consciousness we bring to it. If we want to experience the abundance of the universe, affirming it is so is a powerful initial step. But the truly transformative work is unearthing any deeply rooted beliefs in lack or unworthiness, and then transcending them through spiritual practice. If we desire peace on earth, the transformative work is staying awake to the violence in our own thinking and reacting, then cultivating compassionate responses anchored in the peace that passes understanding.
I know, sounds like a life's work. But that's the beauty of it. Awakening to our own divinity and mastering our innate power to co-create joyful, fulfilling lives is an incredibly rewarding adventure. And like Jesus turning water to wine at the wedding of Cana, as we share our miracle-making expertise, the invitation to celebrate the possibilities inherent in every change is graciously extended to all whose lives are touched by our own. Your input to the evolution of consciousness matters, civically and spiritually.
