Our Soul School provides a safe space of love and acceptance where children can explore their personal spiritual beliefs and express their innate divine nature. Soul School, for children & teens of all ages from birth through high school, meets each Sunday during the 10:30 adult service.
Right Now in Soul School for Kids and Teens…
For the next few months, while coordinating with the adult lessons, our Soul School lessons will also be focusing on creating a “School Family” based on the Conscious Discipline program by Dr. Becky Bailey.
Our lessons are coordinated with the adult service lessons. Parents, please use this to your advantage – talk to your kids about what your learned upstairs, and ask them about what they did in Soul School.
Our children and teens are humans becoming, spirits unfolding. Our goal in Soul School is to help them in that process. It is not our position to "teach" these spiritual beings, but rather to draw out their inner Truth. Our focus is on living joyously and peacefully.
Classes
UniTots (infants & toddlers)
Our UniTots nursery is the perfect environment for our youngest congregants. While you enjoy the adult service your little one will receive his or her first introduction to Soul School. The loosely-structured class time includes free play, art with crayons or play doh, affirming and uplifting stories, snacks and a short circle time that includes simple songs and games affirming the children's God-given divine potential.
UniTykes (preschool & kindgarten)
In this class preschoolers and kindergartners are encouraged to explore their spirituality through imaginative and cooperative play. UniTykes participate in a number activities. They sing songs to help draw forth the truth principles that already reside within each child. Lesson topics include such themes as Uniqueness, Loving, Compassion, Creation in Mind, and Oneness.
UniKids (1st, 2nd & 3rd grade) and UniTweens (4th & 5th grade)
UniKids and UniTweens explore the truth principles through different modalities and learning styles. Curriculum is designed to provide children with a "spiritual toolbox" that they can utilize throughout life. We aim to equip our students with such "tools" as the Five Basic Unity Principles, and the ability to look for personal meaning in prayers (The Lord's Prayer, the Prayer of Faith) and Bible Stories.
UniTeens (6th, 7th & 8th grade)
Our middle school class allows students the opportunity to explore the universal spiritual truths of various world religions, and provides an opportunity for the teens to apply these principles to the real-life situations they face. Our curriculum helps students identify spiritually-centered solutions to real-world challenges in a relevant, practical way, while helping foster positive self-image and confidence. Lessons follow a book-study format.
Youth of Unity (9th-12th Grades)
Our high school youth group is known as Y.O.U. (Youth Of Unity). The Y.O.U.ers exercise a great deal of autonomy under the guidance of skilled adult volunteers. The group often delves into deep spiritual discussions based on such books as Illusions by Richard Bach and The Laws of Spirit by Dan Millman.
- All volunteers who have regular and consistent contact with the children, or any volunteers who would ever be alone with the children for any reason, undergo an annual criminal background check.
- Families are required to complete an annual Family Registration Form before children can attend Soul School. This alerts us to any allergies or special needs your child may have. Y.O.U.ers and Uniteens are also required to complete an additional registration form.
- All children from birth through 8th grade must be signed in and out of the Soul School program each Sunday by a parent or other adult who is responsible for the child while at church. The same adult who signs the child in must also sign the child out. Parents are asked to please pick up their children in the Garden Room promptly after service.
10:15am : Families are asked to arrive by 10:15 in order to allow plenty of time to hang up coats, make a trip to the bathroom, sign kids into the Soul School program, and find seats in the sanctuary. Children age 2 and under can be dropped off in the UniTots Nursery.
10:30am : The Sunday Service starts at 10:30 . Parents are asked to please keep their children with them during this time and enjoy the beginning of the service as a family.
10:45am : Children and teens are called to the front of the sanctuary where they are blessed by the congregation before heading off to Soul School.
10:50am : Soul School begins with a large-group time. After an opening prayer and joy song the kids and teens head off to their respective classes.
11:30am : At the end of the service children through 8th grade remain together in the back half of the Garden Room until they are signed out by a parent.
11:45am : Y.O.U. concludes.
